The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the final candidate list for the upcoming 2027 National Assembly elections.
A comprehensive evaluation of the documents made public by the electoral body confirms that 4,408 candidates across various political platforms were cleared to vie for National Assembly positions nationwide.
A breakdown of the verified figures indicates that 1,195 candidates will contest for seats in the Senate, while 3,213 candidates will compete for positions in the House of Representatives.
The demographic data highlights that male contenders form the vast majority of the cleared field, accounting for 3,965 total candidates. Women represent a smaller proportion, with only 443 female candidates cleared across both legislative arms.
Specifically for the Senate, the final list features 1,080 male candidates alongside 115 female candidates. Across political platforms, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) fielded the highest number of female contenders, submitting 11 candidates for the Senate.
High-profile political figures whose names appear on the official list include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu, and former Senate President Senator Ahmad Lawan.
However, the final list also confirms the omission of several prominent politicians. Key figures left out of the final clearance include Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North), former Gombe State Governor Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central), former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel (Ogun East), and Senator Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South).
According to electoral officials, the publication marks the conclusion of candidate submissions, clearing the path for the political parties to move forward with their official campaigns ahead of the 2027 polls.
