Tinubu Appoints Aisha Garba As UBEC Executive Secretary

Ms. Garba, a Senior Education Specialist at the World Bank, brings over 24 years of experience in advancing education programs for human and economic development.

Her work spans several countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, Kenya, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

With more than 15 years of direct involvement at the World Bank, Ms. Garba has been instrumental in leading and managing education programs and reforms, overseeing them from their inception to implementation and impact evaluation.

In addition to her extensive experience in human development, Ms. Garba is well-connected with governments, development partners, and communities, drawing on a vast professional network.

Her expertise in working in fragile and conflict-affected environments will further enhance her ability to deliver sustainable solutions in Nigeria’s basic education sector.

Previously, Ms. Garba played a key role in achieving Nigeria’s targets for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and has also provided consultancy services to organizations such as the World Bank, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), BOND-UK, the Regent Foundation, and Muslim Aid.

A graduate of Petra American University in Jordan, Ms. Garba holds a combined Bachelor’s degree in English and Computer Studies (2000). She later earned a Master’s in International Development from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 2007.

President Tinubu has expressed confidence that Ms. Garba, in her new role at UBEC, will contribute significantly to the administration’s goal of providing quality education and ensuring that Nigerian children are equipped to compete on a global scale.
