A post dated January 26, 2025, states: “The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has unveiled the first sample of the N5,000 note, which will soon be distributed to banks.
The note features a portrait of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to the CBN Governor, this decision honors Tinubu for his significant contributions during his presidency.”

In 2012, the CBN announced plans to introduce a N5,000 note, but in 2022, the bank reversed these plans. Over the years, there have been various calls for the introduction of the N5,000 note.
