President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Chioma Awuzie as the new Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.
A statement from Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, confirmed that Awuzie’s appointment, effective immediately, is for a five-year term.

Her selection followed a competitive process by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Senator Dr. Barnabas Gemade, where she emerged as the top candidate.
Prior to this appointment, Awuzie, who holds a PhD in Physical and Materials Chemistry, was a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry Option) and also the Director of Tertiary Education Trust Fund Projects at the Polytechnic.
The statement highlighted Awuzie’s global recognition as a scholar with a notable portfolio of research and publications. Her Fellowships with the Chemical Society of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria, and the Institute of Corporate Administration emphasize her expertise in science and sustainability.
She was instrumental in drafting the Renewable Energy Technology curriculum for Nigerian Polytechnics, currently in use, as part of a team organized by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Awuzie has held various leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Renewable Energy Research and Development, Director of Petroleum, Coal, and Renewable Energy Research Unit, and Director of International Higher Education Academic Organizations. She also served as the Coordinator for Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET).
In addition, her training in the Management of Higher Education Institutes at Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI) in Israel has equipped her for the responsibilities ahead.
