Shafi’u Bawa, the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Niger State, reportedly committed suicide on Saturday afternoon.
The event occurred in Kontagora Local Government region, and authorities disclosed that his father, Usman Bawa, a resident of Kontagora’s Rigasa region, reported it to the police command.

Officer Bawa’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from the ceiling by his father when he entered the apartment on Saturday afternoon.
Police officers arrived at the scene and brought his body to the main hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His remains were then handed to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.
A police statement provided further details: “Today, Saturday, 08/02/25, at approximately 14:10 hours, one Mr Usman Bawa, male, of Rigasa area in Kontagora, reported that his son, AP/No 337979, ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling.
The lifeless body was taken to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where a medical doctor confirmed his death. The corpse was released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites. Further updates will be communicated.”
