There was unrest at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, when an unidentified female student attacked and bit a lecturer during a heated confrontation.
The incident, which took place on campus, was sparked by an argument after Dr. Chukwudi Michael, the lecturer, interrupted the student who was recording a dance video in the faculty corridor.
Witnesses said the student was dancing while being filmed when Dr. Michael tried to pass by.

“The lecturer tapped her on the shoulder and said, ‘Excuse me,’ as he passed behind her. However, she became visibly upset and exclaimed, ‘Can you imagine how he just hit me?’” an eyewitness recounted.
The disagreement swiftly escalated into a physical altercation, with the student aggressively grabbing the lecturer’s clothes as bystanders attempted to intervene.
A video of the incident, which went viral on social media on Tuesday, showed the student attacking the lecturer while claiming she had been struck.
Another video showed the lecturer raising his hands in an apparent attempt to restrain himself while the student held onto him tightly.
When reached for comment, UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident and stated that the university was conducting an internal investigation.
“Yes, there was an incident like that. Investigations are ongoing, and the school will make its position known once we conclude our findings,” Chukwurah said.
He explained that Michael said he overheard the student insulting him after passing by, and he went back to verify if she was one of his students.
“He reportedly reached for her phone because he suspected she was making a TikTok video and did not want to appear in it. He asked that the video be deleted, but in response, she allegedly bit him on both arms,” he added.
Images circulating online display clear bite marks on the lecturer’s arms.
Additional reports indicate that the student involved is a 300-level History and International Studies major and the daughter of a lecturer from the university’s Engineering Department.
