Soft Ground Wrestling In Uganda [VIDEO]

Soft Ground Wrestling (SGW), an independent Ugandan professional wrestling promotion and wrestling school, has garnered international attention for its unique and grassroots approach.

Founded on March 16, 2023, by Daniel Bumba in Mukono–Kirangira, Mukono District, SGW operates with a distinctive wrestling ring made of mud and nylon ropes supported by bamboo posts.

Despite its rudimentary setup, the school has grown rapidly, training over 180 students as of March 2024.

The promotion’s story took a turn when prominent international wrestlers, Will Ospreay from All Elite Wrestling and Jordynne Grace from Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, contributed to a GoFundMe campaign aimed at providing SGW with a standard wrestling ring and operational funds.

In April 2024, wrestlers from the Japanese promotion Gleat, including Cima, performed for SGW, further boosting its profile.

Then on June 11, WWE’s Cody Rhodes announced he would fund the construction of an official wrestling ring for the promotion.

SGW began using the new ring in February 2025.
