Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has stated that those still opposing the success of his refinery are primarily major marketers and traders, not the newly appointed leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
Speaking in a statement on Tuesday, Dangote commended President Bola Tinubu for selecting a competent leadership team at the NNPC, specifically praising the appointments of Mr. Bayo Ojulari as Group Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Ahmadu Kida as Non-Executive Chairman.
Dangote noted that he visited the President to express his appreciation for assembling a strong and professionally qualified team capable of transforming the NNPC.
He emphasized that the new management brings significant technical knowledge and managerial experience needed to rejuvenate the country’s most vital public enterprise.

According to Dangote, the leadership of Ojulari and Kida represents the President’s vision to promote reform and innovation within the energy sector.
“We are confident that this team will address systemic challenges, align with the President’s vision of a $1tn economy, and reposition NNPC Limited for operational excellence and long-term sustainability,” he said.
Addressing reports over the weekend about his ongoing battle to keep his $20 billion refinery project afloat and his resolve to confront entrenched interests in the oil sector, Aliko Dangote clarified that his comments were not directed at the new leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
He emphasized that the current NNPCL leadership has been supportive in addressing the refinery’s needs.
Dangote explained that the “cabals” he mentioned referred to certain major oil marketers and traders determined to undermine President Tinubu’s efforts to revive the economy.
He also praised the recent reforms and structural changes at NNPCL, describing them as clear signs of the company’s renewed commitment to transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
“The calibre of individuals at the helm, and their deliberate, reform-driven agenda, demonstrate a commitment to fostering a culture of performance and professionalism,” he added.
Dangote voiced his confidence in the ability of the new leadership at NNPC Limited to elevate Nigeria’s energy sector and reiterated his company’s dedication to advancing the shared goal of a prosperous and energy-secure nation.
He previously noted that certain individuals who had long profited from government-subsidized fuel imports were the ones attempting to undermine the operations of his 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery located in Lekki, Lagos.
“We’re fighting, and the fight is not yet finished. But I have been fighting all my life, and I am ready and 100 per cent sure I will win at the end of the day,” he was quoted.
