Acting LG Chairman Dies Days To By-Election

The acting Chairman of Shira local government area in Bauchi State, Alhaji Wali Adamu, has passed away.

Adamu died on Sunday at the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Katagum local government area of Bauchi State, following a short illness.

He was appointed as the acting Chairman of the LGA on March 3, 2025, after the Shira Legislative Council impeached the former chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his deputy, Hon. Usman Adamu, over allegations including gross misconduct and financial mismanagement.

Before becoming acting chairman, Wali served as the Councillor representing Tumfafi Ward and was the Leader of the Council.

His death was announced on Sunday in a press release by Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Bauchi State Governor.

Governor Bala Mohammed expressed his condolences to Wali’s family, describing him as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to Shira local government and Bauchi State would be remembered.

The governor prayed for Allah to grant Wali paradise and strength to his family.

Wali’s death occurs just 13 days before a scheduled by-election on May 24, 2025, to elect a new chairman and deputy chairman in Shira local government area.

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) had previously announced its readiness for this by-election.

BASIEC had conducted local government elections in August 2024, electing chairmen and deputies across all 20 LGAs in the state.
