Names Of PDP, APC, LP Bigwigs Currently In ADC Coalition Against Tinubu

The recent adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by a significant coalition of prominent political figures has positioned it as a formidable opposition force.

This alliance aims to unseat the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, leveraging a strategy similar to the one that brought the All Progressives Congress (APC) to power in 2015.

The ADC, as a coalition platform, is attracting influential politicians from Nigeria’s major parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC, and the Labour Party (LP).

While united in their goal to oust the ruling APC, the coalition members are driven by promises of good governance and a seemingly distinct ideological stance.

Many within the alliance are vocal critics of the current administration’s policies, such as the mode of fuel subsidy removal and the floating of the Naira.

While some key figures from these three major parties have formally joined the ADC, others have expressed their willingness to support any efforts to unseat the Tinubu-led APC government, even if they prefer to remain within their current parties.

As the coalition solidifies its structure, several influential figures have confirmed their involvement:

Prominent Figures in the ADC Coalition:

• Atiku Abubakar: The former Vice President and PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections is a central figure, signaling a potential shift of his political machinery to this new alliance.
• David Mark: The former Senate President (2007-2015) and Senator for Benue South (1999-2019) has become the interim National Chairman of the ADC, reportedly after resigning his PDP membership. He previously served as military Governor of Niger State (1984-1986) and Minister of Communication, and is recognized as Nigeria’s longest-serving Senate President.
• Prince Uche Secondus: A former National Chairman of the PDP (2017-2021), reportedly involved in the strategic alliance. He also served as acting chairman of the PDP National Working Committee (2015-2016) and held the position of Rivers State PDP chairman for two terms.
• Aminu Tambuwal: A former Governor of Sokoto State (2015-2023) and currently a serving PDP Senator for Sokoto South since 2023. He also served as the 12th Speaker of the House of Representatives (2011-2015) and represented Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency (2003-2015).
• Liyel Imoke: The former Governor of Cross River State (2007-2015). He was a cabinet minister and leader of Parliament in the former Eastern Region and was elected a Senator in 1992 at age 30, a term cut short by military intervention in 1993.
• Babangida Aliyu: The former Governor of Niger State, elected in 2007 and reelected in 2011. He unsuccessfully ran for a Senate seat in March 2015.
• Sule Lamido: The former Governor of Jigawa State, part of the PDP stakeholders who attended the coalition meeting. He affirmed his willingness to support efforts to remove Tinubu while remaining committed to the PDP.
• Sam Egwu: The former Governor of Ebonyi State (1999-2007) and Minister of Education (2008-2010). He served as Senator for Ebonyi North (2015-present) under the PDP and is currently chairman of the Senate Committee on Industry.
• Emeka Ihedioha: Served as Governor of Imo State from 2019 to 2020 before his removal by the Supreme Court. He was also Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015 and was present at the ADC coalition unveiling.
• Senator Gabriel Suswam: A former Governor of Benue State (2007-2015) and former House of Representatives member (1999-2007). He also represented Benue North-East Senatorial District in the 9th Senate but lost his senatorial re-election in 2025. He was spotted at the ADC coalition unveiling.
• Dino Melaye: A former Senator and House of Representatives member, and a PDP member. He briefly defected to the APC in 2015 before returning to the PDP. He was the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign and lost the 2023 governorship election.

• Nasir El-Rufai: The immediate past Governor of Kaduna State (2015-2023) and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (2003-2007). He joined the coalition after facing political challenges within the APC.
