The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted rain and thunderstorms across Nigeria from Monday, July 14, to Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja:
Monday (July 14):
- Northern States: Morning thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over parts of Yobe, Kano, Jigawa, and Bauchi. Other northern areas will see sunny intervals with patchy clouds. Afternoon/evening thunderstorms with moderate rains are likely over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Jigawa, and Yobe.
- Central States: Morning will feature cloudy skies with sunny intervals. Afternoon/evening thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated over parts of Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, and Niger States.
- Southern States: Cloudy skies are expected with light morning rains over parts of Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers. Moderate rains will continue into the afternoon/evening.
Tuesday (July 15):
- Northern States: Morning thunderstorms with moderate rains are possible over parts of Adamawa, Gombe, and Kaduna. Afternoon/evening thunderstorms with moderate rains are forecasted for parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Jigawa, Borno, and Zamfara.
- Central States: Morning will see thunderstorms with light to moderate rains over parts of Plateau and Nasarawa. Afternoon/evening will bring thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rains over most of the region.
- Southern States: Morning rains are likely over parts of Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Edo, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa. Moderate to heavy rains are expected across the entire region during the afternoon/evening.
Wednesday (July 16):
- Northern States: Morning thunderstorms with rain are predicted over parts of Taraba, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Borno, and Yobe.
- Central States: Thunderstorms with moderate rains are likely over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Plateau, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Niger. Afternoon/evening will see thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Benue states.
- Southern States: Morning coastal rains are possible over parts of Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa, with other areas remaining cloudy. Moderate to heavy rains are expected across the Southern region during the afternoon/evening.
NiMet advises the public to take adequate precautions due to potential strong winds preceding thunderstorms.
This includes securing loose objects, avoiding driving during heavy rain, disconnecting electrical appliances, and staying away from tall trees.
