Street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, famously known as Portable, has once again publicly praised President Bola Tinubu, declaring him the “best leader Nigeria has ever produced.”
This statement was made in a viral Instagram video on Monday, contrasting with a growing wave of criticism from other celebrities who supported Tinubu in the 2023 elections but now express regret due to deteriorating economic conditions.
Despite widespread complaints from citizens and social media users, Portable claimed that Nigeria is only now witnessing genuine progress under Tinubu’s administration.
“Since I was born and Nigeria has existed, people say ‘Nigeria will get better’. Nigeria only gets better under the Tinubu administration. It is President Bola Tinubu who makes the country great. He is the best president Nigeria ever had, though I don’t know how future presidents will perform, but he is the best we ever had,” he asserted.
The ‘Zazu Zeh’ crooner also suggested that while many online are insulting the president, Tinubu remains focused on working quietly behind the scenes.
Portable noted, “Whenever Nigerians and bloggers insult Tinubu, the president does not respond to their criticisms because he is busy working.”
Reflecting on his past, Portable mentioned his previous criticisms during the EndSARS protest, where he joined others in accusing former President Muhammadu Buhari of allegedly ordering the Lekki Toll Gate shooting.
He stated, “He is working and just talking, I don’t lie, because I was part of people who previously abused the president during the EndSARS, where former president Muhammadu Buhari allegedly ordered Lekki Toll Gate shootings, but Tinubu is indeed working as president.”
Portable concluded by asserting that those who “hustle diligently” under Tinubu’s leadership will find a way to survive, citing himself as an example.
This video has sparked significant reactions on social media, especially as it follows his recent blaming of the Buhari administration for worsening hardship and closing food borders.
