The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has strongly condemned the assault on one of its members, Edema Elohor Jennifer, in Oba, Anambra State.
In a statement released Tuesday, the NYSC management called the attack “unacceptable” and emphasized its dedication to the safety of corps members.
According to the statement, “Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of Corps Members nationwide and would not condone any individual or group undermining their safety for whatsoever reason.”

Preliminary findings indicate that operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group broke into a Corps Lodge, claiming it was being used for illegal activities.
During a search, they “physically assaulted Corps Member Jennifer, who was only on a visit to the lodge.”
The NYSC has formally reported the incident to the police, and an investigation is underway to ensure the culprits are punished.
“The matter has since been formally reported to the police, and investigations are currently ongoing to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book,” the statement read.
The NYSC is appealing to the public and host communities to protect corps members, adding, “Members of the public are enjoined to provide adequate security for Corps Members in their places of primary assignment and host communities.”
The management reiterated that it will not tolerate any form of “intimidation, harassment or abuse against corps members.”
