In a statement shared on Facebook on Sunday, the Air Force clarified that the jet suffered a technical failure during a post-inspection functional check flight.

The NAF highlighted that the pilots expertly “manoeuvred the aircraft away from populated areas” to prevent civilian casualties before successfully initiating their ejection.

The Air Force confirmed that both pilots are undergoing standard medical evaluations and remain in stable condition. Air Marshal Aneke emphasized that their “remarkable composure” during the emergency protected nearby communities from potential harm.

Following the incident, the Air Chief ordered the “immediate constitution of a board of inquiry” to determine the precise cause of the technical failure.

He also lauded the rapid response of NAF search and rescue, medical, and fire units, which acted swiftly to secure the crash site.

Reassuring the public, the Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to “stringent safety standards and operational excellence” while fulfilling its constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
