Ambassador Yusuf is a seasoned career diplomat who represented Nigeria as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.

His appointment comes at a critical juncture, following the resignation of his predecessor, Professor Abdullahi Usman, on Monday.

Usman’s departure occurred just 14 months into his tenure, at a time when preparations for the 2026 Hajj are already in full swing.

The transition is subject to Senate confirmation as required by Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act.

As the regulatory body for Hajj and Umrah in Nigeria, NAHCON is responsible for pilgrim welfare and the licensing of tour operators.
