In the ongoing Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has secured a significant win by defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a key polling unit.
This victory occurred at polling unit 076 in Sani Abacha Estate, Wuse, Zone 4, which is notably where Dr. Moses Paul, the ADC candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), cast his vote.
In a contest marked by low voter participation, only 10 ballots were recorded at this specific location. Of those, the ADC claimed seven votes, while the APC followed with two, and one vote was invalidated.
Dr. Paul expressed deep concern over the conditions surrounding the election, specifically citing the movement restrictions imposed by the FCT Minister.
He claimed these measures created a “state of emergency” atmosphere that discouraged people from coming out to vote.
Having lived in AMAC for four decades, he remarked that the turnout was significantly lower than any previous election he had witnessed.
Beyond the low numbers, the ADC candidate raised serious allegations of foul play.
While he praised the professionalism of the officials at his own unit, he shared reports that his party’s agents in areas like Takum Shara and parts of the Kabusa ward—specifically Dogongada and Shereti—had been targeted with threats.
He alleged that some agents were “told they would be maimed or killed,” which he interpreted as a deliberate attempt to suppress the vote and manipulate the results in favor of the ruling party.
Dr. Paul further characterized vote buying as a “criminal” activity that was reportedly taking place throughout the capital city.
Despite these obstacles, he maintained a positive outlook on the final outcome, stating that he remained “confident of emerging victorious” and that the “will of the people would prevail.”
He concluded by calling on Nigerians to resist any form of intimidation and to continue demanding leadership that remains accountable to the public.
