Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has clarified that his choice to back President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 stems from his conviction that the President, being a Yoruba man hailing from the South-West, merits backing to solidify his ongoing infrastructure initiatives and governance reforms in the zone.
Adeleke shared this perspective during a Channels Television interview on Sunday, which took place right after he was announced as the winner of the August 15 Osun governorship election, securing his tenure for another term.
The governor pushed back against claims that his endorsement of Tinubu was linked to any political bargain concerning the Osun gubernatorial race, affirming that his backing is completely free of personal deals.
When questioned on whether any pact was made with Tinubu regarding the election, Adeleke answered, “No, I never reached an agreement with Mr President. No.”
Elaborating on his viewpoint, the governor noted, “My support is just based on… he’s a Yoruba man, and he’s from the Southwest. And I believe that all the federal roads that he has started, I want to encourage him, you know, not to forget Southwest too.”
He continued, “Since a Yoruba man has won the first term, maybe we should give him another chance to develop his reform.”
Upon being asked if he intends to actively campaign for Tinubu come the 2027 presidential elections, Adeleke replied, “Big time, I will.”
The governor further expressed openness to collaborating with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), such as loyalists of former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, in his push to support Tinubu.
“Well, as long as it’s… I’m doing it for Mr. President. So I won’t mind. I will work with them,” he stated.
Adeleke mentioned that he is ready to take part in Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in whatever capacity the President deems fit.
“And of course, whatever Mr. President… when it’s time for him to campaign and all that, whatever how he wants me to come in, I will do it,” he concluded.
