Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former Kano State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has made his way back to the ruling party following a short-lived defection to the New Democratic Congress (NDC).
On Sunday, Abdulaziz was officially welcomed back into the APC at the Ganduje Ward office located in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, where he retrieved his party membership card.
A gathering of party executives and loyal supporters attended the event, which served as a public renewal of commitment to the APC framework within Kano.
Previously, Abdulaziz defected to the NDC and obtained nomination forms to run for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency seat, a decision widely viewed as an alignment with the Kwankwasiyya movement led by his father’s fierce political adversary, former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Because his return to the APC happened after the window for securing nomination forms had shut, the move serves a symbolic purpose rather than a direct electoral ambition, though it is regarded as a vital move for strengthening the Ganduje family’s political standing in Dawakin Tofa.
The political landscape in Kano has long been defined by the intense competition between Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya camp and the Ganduje-led APC faction.
While Abdulaziz’s initial switch was viewed as a victory for Kwankwasiyya, his reentry bolsters his father’s political base as preparations ramp up for the 2027 elections.
