2027: APC Governors Distance Themselves From Wike-Led Rainbow Coalition

State governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have distanced themselves from any political coalition or alliance with external figures ahead of the 2027 general elections, reiterating their full commitment to the APC and its internal structures.

Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, made this known in Abuja late Monday night following the forum’s meeting, emphasizing that no formal agreement has been established with any individual or opposition group ahead of the upcoming polls.

The Federal Capital Territory Minister and PDP stakeholder, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves under the APC-led Federal Executive Council, has been spearheading a Rainbow Coalition movement in Rivers State to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of 2027.

Wike, who has been in a friction with certain APC state executives, claimed during a recent media briefing that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State and Uzodimma were working against his political activities.

According to Wike, their opposition stems from the expanding reach of his Rainbow Coalition, which he claimed offers PDP members a platform to challenge ruling party candidates for governorship and legislative seats in 2027, contrary to the interests of the APC governors.

Responding to Wike’s statements and his attempts to extend his political reach across states, the APC governors declared that they would reject any arrangement capable of creating confusion, divided loyalty, or internal rivalry within the ruling party.

Reading the communique after the meeting, Uzodimma explained that the forum’s priority remains the endorsement and success of official APC flagbearers across all electoral levels.

He said, “The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.

“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.

“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party.”
