President Bola Tinubu has humorously dismissed inquiries regarding his son’s political aspirations for the 2027 general elections, disclosing that Seyi Tinubu is merely running after his father.

The President made the lighthearted remark on Monday evening during a special dinner hosted for the leadership of the City Boy Movement at an event themed An Evening with the Original City Boy.

Addressing the gathering, which was led by his son, the President revealed that he had received numerous phone calls in recent weeks from individuals inquiring about the specific political office the younger Tinubu intends to contest.

I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what’s he running for. He’s running after his father, Tinubu quipped.

Transitioning to a tone of commendation, the President praised Seyi and other youth leaders within the movement for successfully mobilizing their peers and organizing grassroots support without demanding political appointments or official titles.

You did it humbly. You did not ask for a little, a title, or an office. You went to the young people, your age groups, your group. You listened to them and you organised them. I am proud of all of you, Tinubu stated.

Offering parental advice combined with a challenge for greater civic dedication, the President urged the youth movement to expand its grassroots outreach and intensify its commitment to national development.

But I will tell you what every father tells his son. You have only started. Do more. Go further. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow, he charged.

Emphasizing the value of selfless national duty, Tinubu noted that the citizens of Nigeria are closely monitoring the political awakening among the younger demographic.

Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour, he concluded.
