The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has refuted allegations of a plot to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The spokesman for the APC Campaign Council, Dele Alake, made the rebuttal in response to claims raised by Timi Frank, a member of the ADC.

While emphasizing that any credible security threat must be taken seriously regardless of political party lines, the APC Campaign Council challenged Frank to submit any verifiable evidence in his possession to relevant law enforcement agencies for immediate investigation.

The campaign council categorically denied any involvement by President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government, or the ruling APC in any scheme targeting the former Vice President or any other opposition leader.

Dismissing reports suggesting that security detail attached to Atiku had been withdrawn, the council affirmed that the ADC candidate continues to enjoy full protection provided by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).

Alake recalled that President Tinubu recently directed national security agencies to enhance security coverage for all presidential, vice-presidential, governorship, and deputy governorship candidates participating in the upcoming 2027 polls.

Rebuking the ADC member’s claims, the campaign spokesman described the assassination allegation as typical opposition sensationalism designed to provoke unnecessary political anxiety and grab social media headlines.

Let our political competition be peaceful, lawful, and focused on the big issues that matter to Nigerians, not character assassination or wild, baseless allegations, the statement read.

Reiterating President Tinubu’s democratic background in opposition politics, the APC campaign council urged political candidates, parties, and supporters across the nation to maintain factual decorum, exercise restraint, and uphold peace as political campaigns gather momentum.
