Prof. Ochefu revealed that he was neither consulted prior to the publication of the campaign council roster nor did he grant consent for his inclusion in the party’s electioneering structure.

The academic, who serves as the National Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Universities Alumni (ANUA) and President-General of Ochetoha K’Idoma, emphasized that his socio-cultural and academic leadership roles mandate strict non-partisanship.

In an official statement personally signed and released on Monday, Prof. Ochefu confirmed that he had formally communicated with the campaign leadership to request the immediate retraction of his name.

My attention has been drawn to a list circulating on social media, titled ‘Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) National Campaign Council’, which names me as a member of its National Campaign Caucus, Prof. Ochefu stated.

I wish to inform the public that I am not a member of the NDC and have never been, he noted.

I was not consulted before my name was included, nor did I give consent, he added.

I have written to the Chairman of the Council to decline the appointment and to request that my name be withdrawn and a revised list published, he disclosed.

Reaffirming his commitment to non-partisan leadership across civil and academic bodies, he explained the rationale behind his rejection of the political appointment.

As National Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Universities Alumni, ANUA, and President-General of Ochetoha K’Idoma, I lead organisations whose members cut across all political parties. These offices require me to remain non-partisan, and I intend to honour that obligation, he stated.

I thank all who reached out for clarification, and ask that you disregard the list insofar as it concerns me, he concluded.
