Elon Musk’s vast empire—encompassing electric vehicles, social media, space exploration, and brain implants—could soon make him the world’s first trillionaire.
Musk’s success has established him as one of the most influential and controversial figures globally. Currently, he is the richest person on the planet, with an estimated net worth nearing $250 billion.
According to Informa Connect Academy, Musk is on track to reach the $1 trillion mark by 2027, thanks to his net worth growing at an average annual rate of 110%, making him the leading candidate to achieve this milestone first.

However, Musk faces competition. The rapid rise of Nvidia, whose computer chips are pivotal to the AI boom, could make its CEO and co-founder, Jensen Huang, a trillionaire by 2028. Huang’s net worth is currently $104 billion. Indian billionaire Gautam Adani is also projected to potentially reach the trillion-dollar mark by 2028.
Musk’s path to becoming a trillionaire largely hinges on the future success of Tesla. The electric vehicle company, which Musk founded, is now the most valuable automaker in the world, with a market valuation of around $710 billion—more than Coca-Cola, Bank of America, and Boeing combined.
Musk owns nearly 13% of Tesla, valued at about $93 billion, and holds 303 million stock options tied to his controversial compensation package.
If Tesla continues to thrive, it could propel Musk’s wealth beyond $1 trillion. “We believe Musk has positioned himself to achieve new heights as Tesla advances with full self-driving, Robotaxis, and the future of EVs,” Dan Ives, senior equity analyst at Wedbush Securities, told CNN.
However, this is not guaranteed. Tesla faces intense competition, especially from lower-cost rivals in China, and has struggled with issues such as a major stock decline in 2022 and multiple recalls, including a significant software issue affecting nearly all its cars in the U.S. Musk has previously hinted that Tesla was on the brink of bankruptcy in 2008 before securing a crucial loan.
He also faced regulatory and shareholder backlash in 2018 over misleading claims about taking Tesla private.
Despite these challenges, Ives describes Musk as resilient, noting, “He is the Teflon kid.” Yet, Musk’s ventures, including the controversial social media platform X (formerly Twitter), also face risks.
X has seen a significant decline in value under Musk’s ownership and has been criticized for its content moderation policies and Musk’s own controversial posts.
Recently, Musk deleted a post questioning why President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have not faced assassination attempts, later claiming it was a joke.
In addition to Tesla, Musk’s wealth is bolstered by other ventures such as The Boring Company, xAI, SpaceX, and Neuralink. SpaceX, which Musk co-founded, is valued at around $210 billion and recently achieved a historic milestone with the first non-government spacewalk.
Neuralink aims to develop brain implant technology to assist paralyzed individuals.
Musk’s financial landscape is complex and diverse, but whether he will be the first trillionaire will depend largely on the ongoing success and growth of his various ventures.
