BREAKING: Benue APC Exco Drags Ganduje-Led NWC To Court

The crisis within the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has escalated as the dissolved state executive committee, led by Augustine Agada, has taken legal action against the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), chaired by Abdullahi Ganduje, for defying a court order.

On Wednesday, a Benue State High Court, presided over by Justice Theresa Igoche, issued an injunction preventing the APC NWC from dissolving the Benue State executive led by Agada. Despite this, the Ganduje-led NWC proceeded with the dissolution later that same day, ignoring the court’s directive.

In response, Agada and eight other members of the dissolved executive filed a contempt motion against the Ganduje-led NWC in a Benue State High Court on Thursday.

They seek to compel the NWC to comply with the court’s order and to refrain from removing them from office until the end of their four-year term.

The plaintiffs also requested punitive measures against the NWC for its disobedience. According to an affidavit filed by Agada’s lawyer, M.T. Aiyebo, the Ganduje-led NWC was served the court order around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. This order was also delivered to the National Legal Adviser’s office at 4:02 p.m. at the party’s national secretariat.

Agada’s affidavit noted his astonishment that despite the court’s restraining order, the Ganduje-led NWC held a meeting at 6 p.m. on August 21, 2024, where they not only dissolved the Benue executive committee but also appointed a caretaker committee, in clear violation of the court’s order.
