The Delta State Police Command has issued a strong warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators concerning transactions over ₦500,000.
SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, noted that such large transactions could expose operators to potential involvement in criminal activities, especially kidnappings.
In a recent statement, SP Edafe referenced a specific incident where a POS operator accepted a ransom payment of ₦4,000,000 from kidnappers, resulting in a profit of only ₦40,000.

“Don’t be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom,” he cautioned. “It must be traced to you.”
The police stressed the need for vigilance and compliance with federal regulations, which set strict limits on transaction amounts to deter criminal misuse.
POS operators are encouraged to report any suspicious activities and to adhere to the guidelines to avoid potential legal consequences.
“Be wise,” SP Edafe advised. “You may argue that you are doing business, but before your lawyer will get you out, you may spend some time cooling off in prison.”
