President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council meeting originally scheduled for today, with a new date to be announced soon.
This decision was made to honor the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night.
The announcement came through a statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday.
General Lagbaja, whose death was initially reported by the Presidency, served as the 27th Chief of Army Staff, assuming the role on June 19, 2023, and serving until his passing on November 5, 2024.

In memory of General Lagbaja, President Tinubu ordered that flags be flown at half-staff nationwide for a week.
He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, expressing deep respect for the late general’s dedicated service.
Lagbaja began his military career at the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1987 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992, as a graduate of the 39th Regular Course.
His distinguished service included roles as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion.
Throughout his career, Lt. General Lagbaja played critical roles in various internal security operations, including Operation ZAKI in Benue State, Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno, Operation Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States.
