The Bayelsa State government, along with the chairpersons of the state’s eight local government areas, has agreed to meet the demands of organized labor by implementing the new N80,000 minimum wage for workers in the unified local government service.
Previously, the state government had approved the N80,000 minimum wage for its employees and has now pledged to add the wage differentials to the December salaries.
These adjustments will be based on ongoing discussions about the payment template used for the new wage in the previous month.

This announcement was made by Bayelsa State Acting Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, during a meeting with the State Minimum Wage Implementation Committee.
Governor Ewhrudjakpo urged labor representatives to submit their calculations based on the principle of consequential adjustments, which should then be harmonized with the state team before next week.
This will allow the government to include the adjustments in the December 2024 salary payments.
He emphasized that the decision to extend the new minimum wage to local government workers was agreed upon unanimously by all key stakeholders, including the local government chairmen.
