President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of retired Supreme Court Justice Uthman Argungu, mourning his death as both a personal and national loss.
Justice Argungu, who passed away at the age of 90, was laid to rest on Sunday in his hometown of Argungu, Kebbi State, following Islamic funeral rites.
A highly respected legal figure and a dear associate of the President, Justice Argungu leaves behind a lasting legacy of dedicated service to his country.
In a moving tribute, President Tinubu praised the late jurist as a distinguished figure in the judiciary, whose immense contributions to the legal profession will be remembered as invaluable.
“Justice Argungu lived a life devoted to humanity and the service of his country with unmatched integrity and commitment,” Tinubu remarked.
A statement released on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, highlighted Justice Argungu’s distinguished career, starting from his early years as a teacher in the former Sokoto Province.
“This was followed by an illustrious legal career that began with his call to the bar in 1965 and culminated in his elevation to the Supreme Court bench in 1993,” Onanuga quoted the President as saying.
Justice Argungu’s impact extended beyond Nigeria, as he also served as a visiting justice on the Supreme Court of The Gambia.
In recognition of his lasting legacy, President Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and expressed sincere condolences to his family, the government, and the people of Kebbi State.
“This is indeed a moment of grief, but we take solace in the remarkable life and legacy he left behind,” Tinubu added.
