A fighter jet accidentally bombed two communities in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 innocent villagers and leaving several others injured.
The Sokoto State Government confirmed the tragic event in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Abubakar Bawa, the Press Secretary to the Governor of Sokoto State, reported that the governor visited the affected communities.

The governor expressed his condolences to the villagers, calling the incident unfortunate.
“The military jets were on their mission to eliminate criminals armed groups terrorizing the state, and mistakenly bombed innocent people of this community,” he said.
“We consider this as a mistake because the same military had on several occasions successfully raided so many criminal hideouts in the state.”
Aliyu emphasized that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the avoidable mistake and ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
He also prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased and grant their families the strength to endure the loss.

Meanwhile, Abubakar Mohammed Daftarana, the Chairman of Silame Local Government Area, identified the affected villages as Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa.
He explained that the fighter jets had been targeting Lakurawa terrorists, and the team is currently assessing the extent of the damage and casualties resulting from the airstrike.
Daftarana further stated that it is too early to confirm the exact number of fatalities or injuries, as the assessment process is still ongoing.
