The Joint Task Force North-West Operation Fansan Yamma has clarified that its airstrikes targeted the locations of the Lakurawa terrorist group and not civilian settlements in Sokoto State.
Lt-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Center for Operation Fansan Yamma, made this statement in response to reports claiming that a military fighter jet had bombed civilian structures in the Silame local government area of the state.
Abdullahi acknowledged the concerns raised by these reports and emphasized that all military operations are based on comprehensive intelligence and reconnaissance missions.

He stressed that this thorough process is crucial when targeting groups like the Lakurawa terrorist organization, as it ensures precision and aims to protect civilian lives.
He also urged the public to rely on verified information to avoid spreading misinformation and causing unnecessary panic.
“There is a significant risk that terrorist groups may attempt to undermine military successes through media disinformation, necessitating caution concerning unverified claims, especially in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry.
“Importantly, the targets struck in the vicinity of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa have been positively identified as associated with the Lakurawa group, reinforcing the justification for the military action taken,” the Military spokesperson stated.
