Speaking during a New Year visit by Vice President Kashim Shettima and members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity and collective responsibility in advancing development at the grassroots level.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President reassured the Governors that his administration had no plans to undermine their authority over local governments.
He instead urged them to focus on delivering the transformative governance citizens expect at the community level, underscoring that strong local governance is vital to restoring hope and improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Addressing rumors of a rift over local government autonomy, President Tinubu made it clear that there was no conflict between his administration and the Governors.
He stressed that collaboration between all levels of government is crucial for achieving sustainable development across the country.
Tinubu called on the Governors to work in close partnership with the federal government to drive meaningful change, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to promoting a partnership that prioritizes the welfare of the people and strengthens Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
