After nearly three years of controversy and legal disputes, a new Alaafin has been approved by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.
The announcement was made in a statement on Friday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
According to Oyelade, Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been recommended by the Oyomesi and duly approved by the Governor, following extensive consultations and divinations.

A statement confirming this was issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo. Ojo noted that this announcement marks the end of the socio-political and legal disputes that have followed the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.
Ojo urged all citizens of Oyo State to join the Government in celebrating this historic event and offering their support to the new Alaafin of Oyo.
The Commissioner also expressed hopes that the new Alaafin’s reign would usher in peace, prosperity, and unity for the Oyo Kingdom.
