Osun Government Reacts To APC’s Call For State Of Emergency Over LG Crisis

The political tension in Osun State escalated on Monday when the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) called for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in response to reports of killings.

However, the state government rejected the call, accusing the APC of deliberately inciting violence to achieve their goals.

Senator Ajibola Basiru, the APC’s National Secretary, and Kolapo Alimi, the Osun State Commissioner for Information, appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday to discuss the issue.

In response to a question about the solution to the crisis, Senator Basiru suggested that the Federal Government might need to declare a state of emergency, citing attacks on helpless farmers by unruly PDP thugs.

In contrast, Alimi strongly opposed the call for a state of emergency, urging the president to reject the request from Basiru and his associates, claiming they had intentionally stirred chaos in the state.

Alimi also promised to release the names of their members who had been killed and emphasized the need for peace.

The violence on Monday reportedly led to the deaths of at least two individuals, as some reinstated local government officials in the state’s 30 councils resumed their positions, asserting they were enforcing a court ruling.

This attempt to take over local government offices sparked resistance in Oshogbo, Ikire, and Irewole, resulting in the death of one of the reinstated council chairmen, Remi Abbas.

Both the ruling PDP and the opposition APC are blaming each other for the crisis, with each party accusing the other of killing their members.
