Senator Neda Imaseun Reacts To Natasha’s Absence As Senate Ethics Committee Begins Probe

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was absent when the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct began its investigation into her alleged refusal to adhere to Senate rules on Wednesday.

After waiting for an hour, Committee Chairman Senator Neda Imaseun expressed disappointment over her absence, saying, “We waited, and unfortunately, she is not here. I hope she will join us before we conclude this process.”

He emphasized that the committee was acting within its authority, noting, “Every petition is referred to us by the entire Senate, and the committee is empowered to deliberate on such matters. In this case, the issue was raised before us on February 25 by Senate Spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, and that is all there is to it.”

Despite her absence, Senator Imaseun expressed hope that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan would appear before the committee before the proceedings concluded.

A few weeks ago, tensions escalated during plenary due to a seating arrangement dispute between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Senate leadership.

Following the disagreement, the Senate voted unanimously to refer Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review, with the committee given two weeks to report its findings.

The seating dispute led to further tensions in the Senate, as Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment, a claim which Akpabio has denied.
