Delta Nursing Students Publicly Reject First Lady Oluremi Tinubu As “Our Mother” In Viral Video

A video circulating online shows students from the Delta State School of Nursing rejecting the title of “mother” when applied to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, during her visit to the state.

Oluremi Tinubu was in Delta State for her Renewed Hope Initiative project.

During her visit, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori praised her work in improving the health sector and the lives of Nigerians.

Kits were distributed to the wives of South-South governors, and the First Lady met with traditional rulers.

A particular moment during the event triggered a significant wave of reactions across social media platforms.

In the widely circulated video, the Master of Ceremony at the event introduced Oluremi Tinubu as “everyone’s mother,” a typical honorific for First Ladies.

However, the nursing students present at the event declined to accept this designation.

Specifically, when the MC proclaimed, “Na our mama be this” (which translates to “This is our mother”), the students collectively responded, “Na your mama be this” (meaning “This is your mother”), thereby indicating their rejection of the title.

While the students’ motivations are not explicitly stated, the incident has occurred amidst widespread public dissatisfaction with the current economic hardships and security issues facing Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Many Nigerians have expressed frustration over rising living costs and food shortages.
