Governor Hyacinth Alia will not attend the House of Representatives Committee invitation scheduled for today, Thursday, May 8th.
His Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, informed journalists in Makurdi on Wednesday of this decision.
The House had summoned the Governors of Benue and Zamfara states, along with their respective State Assembly leadership.
Mr. Kula stated that the governor considers the invitation unconstitutional and will therefore not honor it.
He explained that Governor Alia has already filed a case at the Supreme Court to challenge the legality of the lawmakers’ invitation.
“Yesterday, the Benue Assembly passed a resolution rejecting the Reps Committee invitation. They believe the invitation is based on ignorance and have decided not to attend. They will also challenge it in court,” Mr. Kula said.
He further added that the governor has independently sought legal recourse at the Supreme Court to contest the invitation’s legitimacy, stating, “Since the matter is in court, I will not speak further on it.”

Mr. Kula also alleged that the civil society group behind the petition prompting the invitation is a “faceless and unregistered” entity, claiming that the address provided on the group’s letterhead is fabricated and lacks credibility.
He asserted that there is a coordinated campaign involving misinformation and sponsored protests aimed at destabilizing Benue State.
Mr. Kula noted recent protests in Abuja purportedly representing the concerns of the Benue people, which he claims are intended to create a negative image of the state and provoke a declaration of a state of emergency.
“These protests aim to provoke a state of emergency in Benue by portraying it in a negative light,” he stated.
He accused the organizers of seeking to undermine progress and revert to a failed political system, adding, “Their ultimate goal is to create chaos for selfish political gain.”
Mr. Kula further accused the protest sponsors of attempting to remove the governor through disruptive tactics, asserting, “They will not succeed. Benue people stand firmly with their governor.”
He reassured the public that Benue State remains peaceful and that the government is operating effectively. “Governor Alia is committed to fulfilling his mandate and addressing the state’s challenges,” he concluded.
