There Are Some Fights You Don’t Fight – Fubara Speaks On Rivers Emergency Rule

Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has stated that he is not eager to return to his position.

Speaking at a service of songs held on Sunday in Port Harcourt in honor of the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark, Fubara addressed the situation.

In a widely circulated video from the event, Fubara remarked, “Can’t you see how better I look? Do you think I am interested in it? My spirit has already left that place long ago.”

He further advised, “I want everybody to focus, there are some fights you don’t fight.”

Rivers State has been embroiled in a significant political conflict between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

President Bola Tinubu had previously intervened in December 2023 to mediate a peace agreement between the two.

However, on March 18, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, leading to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all state lawmakers.

Subsequently, a retired naval chief, Ibok-Ete Ibas, was appointed as the sole administrator of the state, effectively dissolving the existing government structure and placing Rivers State under federal control.
