The founding interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, has delivered his polling unit during Saturday’s keenly contested governorship election in the state.
Akande cast his ballot earlier in the day at polling unit 12, Ward 4, located in the Atogbade area of Ila-Orangun, within Ila Local Government Area.
At the close of voting and counting, the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, secured 181 votes, while Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party polled 121 votes.
Popularly called ‘Baba Omokeekeeke’—meaning “father of small children”—Akande governed Osun State from 1999 to 2003 on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Following his time in office, he spent 11 consecutive years from 2003 to 2014 as the national chairman of the AD, Action Congress (AC), and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) before emerging as the founding interim national chairman of the APC.
