The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, widely recognized by his moniker Ogogo.
Several industry stakeholders confirmed his passing, most notably Seun Oloketuyi, the brain behind the Best of Nollywood awards.
Taking to social media to break the sad news, Oloketuyi wrote, “Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead.
“He finally lost the battle of life.”
The heartbreaking loss was further compounded when the late actor’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, broke down in tears during an emotional Instagram live broadcast on Sunday, openly struggling to come to terms with her father’s demise.
Condolences and tributes poured in from across the movie sector, including a heartfelt message shared online by famous actor and filmmaker Saheed Balogun.
Balogun wrote, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful.”
This tragic event arrives only days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, made a public appeal for financial and medical backing as the beloved icon fought stage-four cancer.
On Monday, August 17, 2026, the siblings utilized social media platforms to reach out for urgent medical advice and support.
Kaira had disclosed at the time that medical practitioners explained they could no longer proceed with chemotherapy sessions given the advanced stage of his illness.
Faced with limited options, the family began exploring alternative therapies, which ranged from specialized clinical procedures to traditional medical remedies.
Ogogo leaves behind a monumental legacy as an iconic figure in Nollywood, celebrated extensively for his exceptional artistry and deep contributions to Yoruba-language cinema.
