Court Delivers Ruling In Anyanwu’s Bid To Stop INEC From Effecting Removal As PDP Secretary

Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected the request made by the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from enforcing his removal as party Secretary.

Instead, the judge directed Anyanwu to notify INEC and the other defendants in his new lawsuit, allowing them the opportunity to respond in court.

On Wednesday, Anyanwu had approached the court with an ex-parte application, asking the judge to stop INEC or its agents from accepting or acting on any communications from the PDP unless signed by him.

His lawyer, K.C.O. Njemanze (SAN), also requested the court to prevent Ambassador Umar Illiya Damagun from submitting any documents to INEC unless they bore Anyanwu’s signature.

After considering the plaintiff’s arguments, Justice Ekwo acknowledged that the case was urgent.

However, he decided not to grant the ex-parte order and instead opted to hear from the defendants before making a ruling.

The judge ordered Anyanwu to inform INEC and Damagun of the lawsuit and serve them the relevant court documents. A hearing was scheduled for February 24.
