Ogun State Government Replies Gbenga Daniel

The Ogun State Government has denied allegations of political witch-hunting made by former governor and current Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, regarding demolition notices served on his properties.

The government, in a statement by Special Adviser Kayode Akinmade, insisted the notices were part of a standard urban renewal and town planning audit, not a personal vendetta.

This came in response to Daniel’s team accusing Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration of a “malicious and vindictive abuse of power.”

Akinmade dismissed Daniel’s claims as “blatant distortions of facts,” clarifying that the notices were part of an audit affecting “many other property owners” in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode Government Reserved Areas.

He urged the Senator to follow due process rather than politicizing the issue, stating: “All Otunba Gbenga Daniel needs to do, just like every other person in a similar situation, is to present his planning permit and land title to the relevant government agency for verification within the time specified in the notices, rather than resorting to cheap blackmail.”

The government also stressed its commitment to the rule of law, with Akinmade adding that “Nobody is bigger than the State,” and that Daniel “should submit himself unreservedly to the same laws he once swore twice to uphold.”

The statement concluded by pointing out that such audits were a standard procedure, even during Daniel’s own tenure as governor.
