On Monday, February 16, 2026, President Bola Tinubu publicly threw his weight behind National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu during a visit to Adamawa State, hailing him as a fearless and dedicated public servant.
While commissioning several projects in the state, the President lauded Ribadu’s effectiveness and reaffirmed his trust in the NSA’s leadership.
“The National Security Adviser, the son of the soil, Nuhu Ribadu, I will say clearly here that you are doing an excellent job and we are seeing the results,” Tinubu declared.
He expressed a firm belief in their collective security efforts, adding, “With you, we will defeat the bandits and terrorists.”

The President went on to describe the NSA as “honest, bold, courageous and committed to the job,” telling the audience, “I believe the state of Adamawa is strongly, strongly proud of you, because I am too.”
These supportive comments follow a series of serious accusations leveled against the NSA by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Having returned to Nigeria from Egypt last Thursday, El-Rufai has demanded answers regarding his attempted arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and an alleged plan to procure thallium sulphate from Poland.
In a letter sent to the NSA on Sunday, El-Rufai highlighted that the substance is “highly dangerous and tightly regulated,” and called for total transparency.
He requested clarification on six specific points, including “the intended purpose and end-use of the imported thallium sulphate, the identity of the supplier and whether the importation followed due authorisation, the quantity and concentration involved, storage arrangements, and the regulatory oversight and coordination in place with NAFDAC, NCDC, and relevant public health and environmental agencies.”
El-Rufai insisted his inquiry was made in “good faith,” arguing that “openness would strengthen public trust in institutions.”
He confirmed that copies of this correspondence were distributed to other relevant authorities for transparency.
In response, the Office of the National Security Adviser has reportedly instructed El-Rufai to “submit evidence of the alleged procurement of Thallium Sulphate to the Department of State Services for further investigation.”
