‘Nafiu Bala Now Moves With Heavy Security Like Governor’ — Atiku Speaks On Rift In ADC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has claimed that Nafiu Bala, a factional leader within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is now traveling with an extensive security detail comparable to that of a state governor.

Atiku alleged that this sudden lifestyle shift is being funded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking in an interview with DW Hausa, Atiku argued that the internal turmoil within the ADC is the result of outside meddling by the ruling party, which he believes is intimidated by the ADC’s rising national profile.

He noted that the party continues to see an influx of new members, stating: “So far, people from all states are still joining the party. Nothing has happened to suggest that Nigerians are withdrawing their support. Not at all.”

Atiku contended that the crisis was manufactured by those who view the party’s growth as a threat.

“What is happening is external interference. Some individuals have been bought over and used because certain interests have noticed that the party is gaining momentum by the day. They see this growth as a threat if it continues,” he remarked.

The former Vice President specifically questioned how Mr. Bala acquired his current resources and protection.

“How can someone who claimed to be the party chairman suddenly be provided with security, vehicles and a residence? It clearly points to outside influence. We have evidence. We know where he resides and we observe how he moves around, almost like a governor,” he said.

He further suggested that Bala’s reluctance to visit his own community points to a lack of genuine support, asking: “Since the beginning of this crisis, he has not traveled to his hometown. Why is he afraid?”

Regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent move to derecognize the ADC, Atiku insisted the opposition is not discouraged.

“Of course, we shouldn’t have to say it, but this is external interference. They are using someone because they see our party getting stronger every day, and they think it will be a challenge to them if we continue to grow,” he explained.

He concluded by emphasizing that the ADC is becoming a hub for the next generation of leaders.

“Youth are dominating the party now. Whoever you see planning to contest, from councillor to state assembly, national assembly, and governor, they are all youth. We already said our party is for youth and women; we want to win and give it to them,” Atiku stated.
