2027: Fubara Joins Rivers Governorship Race Under NDC

Just hours after Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara withdrew from the upcoming gubernatorial race, a political aspirant sharing his last name entered the contest.

The individual, identified as Blessing Fubara Snr, has picked up the nomination and expression of interest forms under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to run in the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.

He picked up the paperwork at the NDC national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

Although both Blessing and Siminalayi Fubara come from the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, a direct family connection has not been verified.

The Rivers State Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Success Jack, confirmed Blessing Fubara’s status as a gubernatorial aspirant but noted he was uncertain about any familial ties to the current governor.

He said: “Yes, he (Blessing Fubara Snr) obtained his expression of interest form yesterday in Abuja, and we are prepared and still preparing to win not only governorship election, but all the elections in Rivers State, come 2027 general election.”

Fubara’s entry into the NDC race has sparked significant political chatter and attracted considerable interest across the state’s political landscape.

His move comes roughly two weeks after he officially left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the NDC.

During that transition, he was formally welcomed in Abuja by the NDC national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, alongside other party chieftains.

At the time, he remarked that his choice to align with the NDC, which he described as a “moving train,” was made for the well-being of Rivers citizens, noting that the future of the state hangs in the balance as residents prepare to reclaim their territory in 2027.

Blessing Fubara Snr is an adult education and community development graduate who serves as the MD/CEO of D’Consiglories LLC.

He operates as a grassroots organizer, urban renewal consultant, and development strategist with a background in youth empowerment schemes and public sector advisory roles.

While NDC loyalists in Rivers view the emergence of Blessing Fubara Snr as the launch of a fresh political awakening, political analysts and skeptics maintain that the true challenge will be the party’s capacity to translate current public curiosity into a strong, statewide organization that can rival the deeply rooted structures of the dominant political parties.
