The US has captured Khaled Ahmed al-Dandal, an ISIS leader who aided the escapees of the terror group from a detention facility in Syria, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
Al-Dandal was apprehended early Sunday morning in cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces.
He had been involved in assisting ISIS fighters who recently escaped from detention centers in Syria.

Last week, five ISIS detainees escaped from the Raqqa detention facility.
While the Syrian Democratic Forces managed to recapture two, the remaining three are still at large.
There are over 9,000 ISIS detainees held in more than 20 facilities in Syria.
The US is working to repatriate these detainees, though the process is slow and complicated.
The large number of detainees has made these facilities targets for ISIS attacks aimed at freeing prisoners.

Gen. Erik Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, warned that a mass escape of these ISIS fighters would pose a severe threat to the region and beyond.
The US continues to collaborate with the international community to repatriate these fighters for final adjudication.
The capture of al-Dandal follows a recent raid in Iraq where seven US service members were wounded.
Conducted with Iraqi Security Forces, the operation targeted ISIS hideouts and resulted in the deaths of 15 ISIS militants.
All injured service members are stable, with one evacuated for further care.
