Covenant University (CU) has been ranked as Nigeria’s top university in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World Rankings, an annual comprehensive global ranking of universities.
The 2024 edition evaluated 1,907 institutions across 108 countries and regions.
Covenant University, along with the University of Ibadan (UI), ranked within the 801-1000 bracket globally.

The rankings are based on 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators that assess universities across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
This year’s analysis covered more than 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and included survey responses from 68,402 scholars worldwide. THE stated, “Overall, we collected 411,789 data points from over 2,673 institutions that submitted data.”
For the eighth consecutive year, the University of Oxford topped the global rankings, with Stanford University climbing to second place, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) moving to third.
Harvard University dropped to fourth, while the University of Cambridge fell to fifth after sharing third place last year.
