Trump Says He’s Revoking Biden’s Access To Classified Information

On Friday, President Donald Trump announced he was revoking former President Joe Biden’s security clearance and halting his daily intelligence briefings, stating there was no reason for Biden to continue receiving access to classified information.

Trump shared the decision on his Truth Social platform, saying, “Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings.”

The actual impact of Trump’s move to revoke Biden’s security clearance remains unclear, as former presidents typically do not hold security clearances.

While they have access to all classified information during their presidency, that access ends once they leave office.

However, Trump’s action mirrors Biden’s decision four years earlier to restrict Trump’s access to intelligence briefings, citing concerns about his “erratic behavior” before and after the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

Trump also argued that Biden had set a precedent in 2021 by limiting Trump’s access to national security details after leaving office, calling it an unfair decision.

Trump referred to former special counsel Robert Hur’s report, which, although not charging Biden with a crime, criticized him for being forgetful and mishandling sensitive classified information.

“The Hur Report revealed that Biden suffers from ‘poor memory’ and, even in his ‘prime,’ could not be trusted with sensitive information,” Trump wrote.

Trump concluded by emphasizing his commitment to protecting national security and, with sarcasm, declared, “Joe, you’re fired,” before ending with his slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

Previously, President Biden had barred Trump from receiving intelligence briefings, citing concerns over Trump’s behavior, especially after the Capitol attack.

This marked the first time a former president was excluded from receiving intelligence briefings, which are traditionally offered as a courtesy and for guidance purposes to former presidents.

With Biden setting this precedent, Trump is now asserting the authority to stop his predecessor from receiving daily intelligence briefings, even going further by seeking to revoke Biden’s security clearance.
