Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The announcement was made on Saturday following a strategic meeting with stakeholders to discuss the fallout from the Supreme Court’s ruling on the PDP’s leadership crisis.
The Governor explained that he had spent over a week in Abuja trying to resolve the internal friction within the PDP, but noted that the court’s decision to nullify parallel conventions has fundamentally changed the situation.
According to him, the verdict left both factions without legal standing. “After careful consideration and wide consultations with leaders and stakeholders across the country, it has become clear that our efforts to restore stability have not yielded the desired results,” he remarked.

While expressing his gratitude to the PDP for being his political home, Mohammed emphasized that his move was a strategic necessity to ensure a stable platform for his supporters.
He stated, “However, as responsible leaders, we cannot allow our people to be left without a credible and effective political platform.”
He further clarified the spirit of his departure, saying, “We remain PDP at heart. We are leaving not out of bitterness, but out of necessity—to continue the struggle for good governance.”
Confirming his new destination, the Governor declared, “Consequently, after extensive consultations, we have taken a firm and strategic decision to join the Allied Peoples Movement.”
He has already set up a compliance committee and initiated online registration to manage the transition, noting that members of his cabinet wishing to run for office have already resigned as required by law.

Receiving the Governor, the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, described his party as a “clean, democratic party” focused on the motto “Nigeria First.”
He praised the Governor’s leadership and assured the new members that the APM is a stable environment governed strictly by its constitution.
To seal the move, Dantalle presented the Governor with his membership card and the party’s insignia, explaining that their symbol—the cassava plant—represents resilience and economic value.
