Senator Aishatu Binani, the former governorship candidate for Adamawa State, officially moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday, a step that marks her latest political shift in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
This transition occurs only nine months after she departed from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
After receiving her membership card, Binani explained that her choice was rooted in the party’s dedication to organized governance and the strong influence of her followers.

She stated, “I believe many Nigerians are asking why I decided to join the NDC. The answer is quite simple. After carefully studying the party’s constitution, I saw a strong commitment to structured, policy-driven governance.”
Addressing her recent party changes, she added, “I will never condemn where I came from. Politics is dynamic and often local in nature, and decisions are made based on prevailing realities.”
Binani highlighted that her political base was the primary driver behind the move, noting that her supporters had already integrated into the NDC before she joined.
“In fact, before I made my final decision, they had already made significant progress within the party,” she remarked, adding that “Adamawa State boasts of having the highest number of registered NDC members.”
She expressed her appreciation to the party’s leadership, stating, “All we ask for is fairness, equity, justice, transparency, and, most importantly, the strengthening of internal democracy within the party.”

Welcoming her to the fold, the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, described the party as an inclusive home for new members.
He told Binani, “This party is open, inclusive, and ready to harness your energy, ideas, and strength,” and confirmed that the leadership of the party in Adamawa has been entrusted to her.
Dickson also encouraged other political figures to consider the NDC if they are unhappy with their current platforms.
He noted, “Every Nigerian has the constitutional right to join any political party at any time—and to leave at any time. Politics is a journey. If the vehicle you boarded is no longer taking you to your destination, you have every right to step down and board a better one.”
This move follows Binani’s high-profile 2023 governorship run under the APC, which became a focal point of national debate after a controversial and later nullified declaration of victory by the then-Resident Electoral Commissioner.
Her entry into the NDC is expected to significantly alter the political landscape in Adamawa as the next election cycle approaches.
