Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has responded to criticism surrounding the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, maintaining that he stood by his family and fulfilled his role independently.
Davido, who originates from Osun State, shared these remarks on his verified X handle on Monday following the victory of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Saturday’s election.
The singer emphasized that he did not “buy anybody” to support the election, noting that he acted on his own accord to back his family.
“I brought no one. No one defended me. I backed my family on my own. I have done my job,” Davido wrote.
He further voiced his deep disillusionment with the political landscape in the country, characterizing it as “evil” and stating he would stay away until conditions improve.
“Nigerian politics is evil and I don’t want to be a part of it till God helps us,” he added.
His statements followed closely behind the Osun governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, which secured Governor Ademola Adeleke a second term in office.
Contesting on the platform of the Accord Party, Adeleke triumphed over the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, also known as AMBO.
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes compared to Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes, winning the contest by a margin of 66,252 votes.
With this victory, Adeleke will serve another four-year term as the governor of Osun State.
Throughout the election campaign, Davido actively used his social media channels to rally support and promote his uncle’s re-election bid.
However, his latest comments signaled a step back from partisan involvement, with the artist indicating he would only re-engage if the political environment undergoes positive changes.
The Osun election drew widespread interest from political parties and observers across the nation due to the intense contest between the incumbent governor and the APC challenger.
